Rental property manager Michelle Aarons manages a select inventory of cottages, apartments and homes, ranging from sand-on-your-feet casual to HGTV-chic -- all within easy walking distance of three prime La Jolla beaches. Originally from Australia, Michelle is a long-time resident of La Jolla California and owns two of the La Jolla rentals in her inventory. Her hands-on approach to management covers everything from the quality of the linens to the contents of the bulging guest welcome books.

While none of these La Jolla rentals is right on the beach, all are within blocks of one of three La Jolla classics: La Jolla Cove (stunning scenery and scuba diving, close to shops and dining in the village); Windansea (some of the best surfing in California) or La Jolla Shores Beach (an all-around family beach near a park and bike path).
The closest is half a block from the water; the farthest, 5 blocks away. Three rentals have stunning views of La Jolla Cove. One has a partial view of the water from the heart of the village and another, a La Jolla Cove to La Jolla Shores Beach panorama from a hillside.
Type and size
This eclectic inventory includes: a classic, no-frills beach cottage, an HGTV-worthy Bali-inspired townhouse in the village (with two bathrooms for its one bedroom (!)) and a 1920s Spanish bungalow in the hills.
Most rentals are cottages and apartments with one to three bedrooms, equipped with WiFi, cable TV, land line telephones, BBQ grill, off-street parking (some have garages or parking garages) and a balcony, patio or fenced yard. Some of these La Jolla rentals include upscale amenities such as a sunken Jacuzzi tub and chef’s kitchen.
Price
There are basically two “seasons”in La Jolla California. During the summer high season (June 13 to September 7), vacation rental rates are almost are double what they are during the rest of the year. (Note: La Jolla weather is sublime 90% of the year. So it's one of the best summer family beach vacations going and among the better October vacation ideas, if you're on a budget.
Holiday prices are about 20% higher than low-season rates.
Minimums: Many of these La Jolla rentals are only available by week during the summer; the rest of the year, there’s a three-night minimum. A few rentals have a one-month minimum.

Staff
Michelle runs a lean operation out of her home, just one bookkeeper, two cleaning staff, two handymen and trusted local plumbers, locksmiths and other local service people on call. She’s accessible 24/7.
Concierge services
• All La Jolla rentals include basic beach gear: boogie boards, beach chairs and umbrellas and ice chests. Several have bikes.
• If you’re planning a romantic beach vacation or playing with anniversary vacation ideas , let Michelle know when you book your la Jolla rental. “We always leave champagne and flowers to make it special. We’ve had people who have had parties in some of our backyards and we’ve put up fairy lights for them,” she says.
Services for families
Pack and Plays (nylon folding portable crib in a bag), high chairs and bouncing chairs are available on request.
Pet-friendly homes?
“They’re all pet friendly. I encourage it,” says Michelle. There’s an additional $500 deposit or $5 a day flat fee.
While dogs are welcome on La Jolla beaches only before 9 a.m. and after 6 p.m., there are four dog-friendly, no-leash beaches within a 15-minute drive. The La Jolla Shores beach cottages have fenced yards with patios and the nearby park and bike path are dog-friendly.

If you’re on a budget, the basic one-bedroom beach cottage is classic and comfortable, with a yard for kids and dogs.
For larger family beach vacations, you can rent the neighboring two-bedroom cottage.
Or splurge on an exotic Balinese apartment, a high-style apartment steps from iconic La Jolla Cove or a 1920s Spanish bungalow with La Jolla Cove to La Jolla Shores Beach view.
All La Jolla Vacation Rentals are close to La Jolla’s “big three” beaches; some are in the heart of the village, convenient to shops and restaurants on and near Prospect Street.

“My phone rings all the time, and I answer it,” Michelle says. “If a renter has an issue, I’m there is a heartbeat.” Because she works out of her home, Michelle is online throughout the day and accessible by phone 24/7. If you call do happen to get voice mail she’ll call or reply by computer promptly -- “within hours at the most.”
3. Dedication to the Details
“I absolutely insist everything is lovely: brand new linens, good quality pillows,” Michelle says. “Our cleaners do a remarkable job. They do the windows every time and the rentals always smell nice and fresh when you walk in.”
There are welcome books in all La Jolla Vacation Rentals and Michelle makes sure they’re kept up to date with pertinent telephone numbers and notes about the “little idiosyncrasies” of each rental, as well as with menus from La Jolla restaurants, brochures on local activities and attractions and coupons whenever they’re available.
