Pet friendly vacations and beach house vacation rentals go hand in paw. We dog-people are a special breed. So stuck on our four-legged friends that we want to take them on vacation with us -- leashes, dishes, slobbery toys and all.

There's nothing a dog loves better than a beach.
The smells! The waves! The miles of sandy shore!

That's why I don't mind at all giving Long Beach, California photographer Justin Rudd a plug by posting his beautiful slide show. He so perfectly captures the pure joy of a dog at the beach.

And there are more vacation rentals than you might imagine that welcome two- and four-legged family members.

In fact, when I apologized in advance to the
owner of a particularly lovely home where we planned to vacation with our THREE dogs, she scoffed "I've never had any trouble with pets. It's kids I worry about."

Planning pet friendly vacations

Here's what I love: We pay $40 a day for pet care while we’re away -- which is a deal for three dogs. Times 7 (days), that’s $280 a week we save by bringing our fur-kids along.

Most pet friendly beach vacation rentals have rules,
of course. For example, dogs are typically not allowed on the furniture, unless you cover it with a blanket
you bring with you.

In some cases, dogs must be left in a crate when
you leave the house. Some homes permit dogs, but not cats. Make sure you're clear on the do's and
don'ts of all the beach houses for rent you're considering upfront.
